Book Review and Give Away

I am humbled by this wonderful review of my book. It has always been my intention to make things easier for people to learn. And they are also giving away a copy of my book.

"Jane Monk is the teacher we all wish we had growing up, in that whatever the challenging subject, she would inspire us to master it. With her new book, Tangle Stitches: For Quilters and Fabric Artists, you’ll feel as if Jane is sitting down with you for a tutoring session on stitching. Quilters generally fall into 2 categories, those who get more joy from creating the tops and those where stitching is the supreme motivator. With this book, Jane may win the former into the fold of stitching heaven."

A little bit of Lace Crochet for a change

I have been crocheting for a long time.  My big sister showed me how to make granny squares and I simply flew from there.  I did a lot of filet crochet with fine cotton thread.  I had never done lace crochet work before and thought I would give it a go.

I used a laceweight Silk/Merino mercerised commercial yarn and it came up so soft and delicious.

This pattern is by Berniolise Designs

"Izumi"
 Izumi unblocked
Izumi "blocked"   blocking makes such a difference to the finished item.  I rinsed my shawl and then rolled it in a towel to get it partially dry.  I then pinned it out on my foam blocking board with T pins and left it to dry.
This one is my latest finish and is called "Luna"
Luna, unblocked.

I like to crochet in the evening sometimes as it is very relaxing.

I hope you enjoy seeing what I get up to when I am not writing books or tangling :)

Where has the time gone?

I didn't realise how long it had been since I posted here on my blog.   I have been busy quilting customer quilts as well as drawing and creating things for an exhibition of my work later in the year.

This lovely quilt was made by Faridah from clothing offcuts - a true hand pieced quilt.  An unusual piecing of hexagons, but when you see it in real life, very rich and interesting.  Although the top was mostly polyester mix of some type ... you know, lots of shiny, slippery fabrics, it was still fairly easy to quilt on the longarm machine. I just had to go a little slower than usual.

Have you visited my other blog One Tangle... I post a new tangle drawing almost every day ... we are up to Day 281 today :)

Cheers for now ... happy quilting ... jane x

White Wholecloth Quilt

Yesterday I started a Wholecloth Quilt.  Using white Cotton Sateen as the quilt top and backing.   This one is for a King Sized bed, so it is quite large. I am also working on a Queen sized one but am still marking that out.

The first picture is the start.  The second picture shows what I have done on the first run across the fabric.  I will post more when I have done the centre piece which will be a lovely stem rose.

I have to say it is lovely to be quilting free style, just doing what I love :)

Longarm Quilting Starts for 2014

The quilting studio has been cleaned, the machine serviced, oiled and ready to go.  I can't wait to see what lovely quilts my customers will bring me in 2014.

First off is an edge to edge today and then I have a couple of wholecloth custom quilts to get finished.

Happy Quilting everyone ... Jane xx
