Entangled Zentangles

I drew this yesterday (while having my breakfast cup of tea) I hadn't really thought about "entangle" until I did this -  but it really does fit, because the dictionary states that entangle means to make tangled or intricate; to catch among obstacles..(not the exact quote here).

So Zentangle really does have multiple meanings and applications .... this tangle really goes with the next one I have to show you ....

It's not neat, and is really quite too busy ... but Maria's "edgy" tangle in the garlic patch inspired me to do this and to say thank you at the same time ... What do you think?    I would like to re-do this one.

Another pretty leafy one.

Here I thought I would try some new patterns - the "laced" pattern from Mary Elizabeth Martin, and "Stoic" from Zentangle.   The circle grid and beehives are my own.

And last but not least, Maria's "Well appointed" zentangle has inspired me to show you this ATC that  did a few years ago now.   It is a portrait of my husband, drawn with just points. He really does have quite large eyes and features and I have found it very difficult to capture a nice drawing of him, but this one seems to work.  At least it is recognizable as him - lol!

Geometric anyone?

Some more beautiful Tangles ... I really do like the geometric ones ...

And a bit of a mixed up one...

This one needs some shading and is not quite finished ... the string started out looking like lips .... but now it looks like leaves - is it two leaves or three???  I like how there is a bit of an illusion going on here with the direction of the lines.  I could play with that concept a bit further I think.

I have been quilting all day except for my lunch break when I did this little tangle, the other two were from yesterday afternoon ... a little relaxing zen time!

Thanks Maria and Rick

A big thankyou to those wonderful zentanglers Maria and Rick from Zentangle - they have put my little journal cover on their blog - you can check their post out .here ... I am honoured to be on their Links list.  I look like the Cheshire Cat who has had the cream!

Here are some of my tangles from the weekend ... this one was amazing because when I finished it ... I saw it looked like a "J" - it must be that subconsious thing again - lol!

Trying out a couple of new (to me) patterns ... the long round flowers and those wavey things in the middle  - not sure what you call them ... but I finally worked out how to draw them after Rick posted a post with some of these in his drawing.

And as a longarm machine quilter ... I can't go past feathers ... they look great.

Something a little different

You may know that I make journal covers,  I made this one last year - it is a Tangle Journal Cover ... I drew on white fabric with my Micron pen and then stitched with thread - I love the texure of this cover and it is one of my favourites.   I would like to make another with some new Tangles.

This is the back.

And some Tangles I have done over the past week.

I was looking at this tangle and I am pretty sure I have seen this curly thing before,  probably not exactly ... but similar.  I think from Zentangle but I can't find it now ... amazing how you can subconciously recreate something that someone else has done - I must have really liked it.
If I find it ... I will put the link here.

Tangles

The front of my Tangle Album ... I need to seal it now as the white gel pen will rub off if I don't.

I like this random ribbony thing - now what can I call this ... any suggestions?

This one is last night's effort while watching Batman Returns ... well I was in the same room, not really watching.  The best batman is George Clooney IMHO!

This is one I did quite a few years ago now ... I like to draw a string on an A5 sheet of paper, then do my drawing, then cut it up.   My header picture is made up of a few of these drawings.

And, last but not least, another page in my ideas journal ... Mendhi anyone?   There are wonderful pattern ideas from many cultures - just think outside of the box and you will be surprised at what you can come up with.

Name Tangles

This is today's tangle.   I want to do a big name tangle for my blog "jane monk studio",  I thought I would just try a small 3x3 with my first name.  A very simple one, but I like it - what do you think?

And I purchased a photo album yesterday so I could put all my drawings into it and keep them clean and in one spot.   A nice coffee table album.  I need to do some work on the cover - will have to use a white pen I think, as the cover is black.

You Know I am a Tangle Addict Right!

Last nights Tangles ... television doesn't usually cut it for me, I don't watch much as I would rather be drawing or quilting.  So I sit at the dining table where I can still talk with my family in the lounge, and I do my thing.

I especially like this one, with the little pussywillow plant things.  My cornerstones are getting more elaborate too...hmmm.

And I thought I would have a go at Maria's (from Zentangle) "Hurry" pattern - this is the one that looks like rushes braided together - see it?

Now I'm off to get ready for the day here and no more tangling for me until tonight, or perhaps a little while I wait for the school bus.

Tangles & Ideas Journal

This is today's tangle - I call it Urchins because those little guys in the middle remind me of urchins.

I also thought I would show you my ideas journal.  It is a Moleskin drawing pad and I have divided the page up into 8 sections.   I keep a different idea in each section.  The book currently has hundreds of designs - both mine and those I have borrowed from others, but mostly mine.

As you can see, some are simple and others are a bit more complex.   It is a really good way to keep ideas and use those ideas for future drawings.  You can always find ways of adapting any idea into a pattern.

Okay - here are some of the 3x3's that I did over the Easter Break while at the beach

And my beach shoes - in black.  I also have a pair of white ones that I am currently doing smaller work on - they are only $6.00 a pair at KMart.

The possibilities are endless and so so enjoyable.

Tangles to you all ... Jane x

New Blog for My Original Art Works

Hi - this is a new blog to document my own original miniature ink art - I like to call them Mia's!

As the days go by I will put more pics up here for you all to browse, comment if you want.   I usually do one or two a day as they are only around 3 x 2.5 or 3 x 3 inch.

I also need to spend some time refining the blog.

Cheers
Jane
