Tangle Patterns by Jane Monk

Over the years I have created over 200 tangle patterns.   A few of my earlier pattern step outs can be found through Tangle Patterns here http://tanglepatterns.com/tag/jane-monk
Still some of my favourites.

I also have a series of e-books with my tangle pattern step outs with a total of 144 patterns in them. You can purchase them  at www.janemonkstudio.com

New Tangle Pattern - Fysh

I really am into circles lately and was revisiting my journal to see what I had done .. this was way back in May this year... then I thought ... did I show you this tangle pattern of mine ...   I call these ones Fysh.
They remind me of sea creatures and go really really well with the Zentangle pattern "Squid" as a centre.
Here are a whole bunch of single ones ... they really do lend themselves to personalisation.

Enjoy and Happy Tangling for now ... Jane

Meant to say ... you can see them in my previous post of coloured flowers ... yep that's them Fysh there posing as flowers!

A New Tangle Pattern - "Strata"

You may have noticed this new tangle pattern in a few of my tangles over the past months.   I thought I would share the steps with you.  Basically you draw shapes and connect them with straight lines, I like to use multiples of three going every which way.  If you look at my last post in the bottom left hand corner you can see this pattern and how I have used it.  Also the post before that, in the second photo - I have used Strata as the background for the Zentangle pattern Hollibaugh.   It reminds me of the, well, Strata of the earth.

I hope you enjoy it and show me some tangles that you create using this pattern.    Happy Tangling for now ... Jane x

Video for Jane's Tangle Pattern "SPINNER"

This is my tangle pattern "Spinner" ... it is really simple and very useful to add a bit of fun to your Zentangle art.

This is my very first video, so I hope it is okay and you can see how I create this simple pattern "Spinner".
The video was taken on my Olympus All-Weather camera - just a little point and shoot digital - I'm amazed at what it can do.  The only problem is, I don't know how to edit it - so what you see is what you get - I don't think it is too bad though.

I hope you enjoy!

I have some samples I did on the Zest-It Pencil Blend, showing how it works with different types of pencils, also a water soluable graphite pencil.    Check back later this week for that post.

Tuesday, 8 February 2011

Look what arrived yesterday ....

A huge A3 sized Moleskine Water colour Notebook ... yep A3 - 72 pages of 200gsm beautiful paper.

And a little baby one too!

I have put the Micron pen there so you can see the sizes.   www.bookdepository.com.uk  (free postage worldwide and pretty good prices too!) (wish I was affiliated with them, because they have a heap of my money - lol!)

I couldn't resist that huge expanse of creamy thick paper and started to draw last night.   This book will be my own journal of bigger drawings - for posterity I think!

Not to be egotistical but I would like something of my art to remain for my family when I am gone ... what better way to do it than in a beautiful book form.
I have another little one and I use it to keep all my own patterns in ... I know you haven't seen some of these ones.   I currently have over 60 patterns of my own design and more in my head waiting to jump onto paper.

So there you have it ... a quick visit to the book depository online and I have a couple of beautiful Moleskines to draw in ... what more could a girl want (other than pens of course!)

New Pattern "Calipo"

Sometimes it is good to have a slow day ... I haven't been doing much at all but I did come up with a new pattern.

So to celebrate February (why not) ... I would like to share with you "Calipo".    I haven't had much time to play with it yet but I'm sure it is going to be a lot of fun in my tangles.

Enjoy....Jane x

Tangling in Tasmania Today

Now look at all those T's - lol!

I am sitting here at 2.10am - once again because I cannot sleep.  I am glad this doesn't happen every night.

So I thought I would share some of the tangles that I have created over the past few days.

These two are not shaded ... can you see my pattern Kitties in there ... they make me smile every time I see them sticking their little heads up.
Creating patterns ... you may recognise the Swirly Blossom pattern that I use in my Decorated Alphabets ... very simple to do and very effective as a repetitive pattern.
Here is a close up.

My next Zentangle for Quilters class is at Cranberry Crafts in Ulverstone on Saturday the 22nd January ... I can't wait but this Saturday I am teaching my Fabric Postcard techniques class ... I did a little tangling for this too ....

Here it is ... Postcards are fun to make and the fabric ones are very tactile ... I love the feel of the stitching on the fabric ... can you tell I am a quilter!

Okay so I'm off the computer soon, draw a couple of tangles perhaps that might be relaxing enough for me to go back to sleep.... Happy Zentangling ZZzzzzzz

New Pattern - Trimonds

Here is a new pattern ... you can see that shading makes all the difference ... you can shade those little segments in any way and you will get a different look - very 3Dimensional.

I have called this pattern "Trimonds"  because it is diamonds made into triangles.

I hope you all like it.

Two New Patterns from Jane Monk Studio - TadPegs & Slates

I have drawn up some new patterns.

I saw a photograph of some Japanese Roof Tiles and loved how they nested together.  So I bring you "Slates"

I have been using this little pattern for awhile now ... I really love how it looks.  It reminds me of frogs eggs ... so tadpoles, hence the name "TadPegs"

I hope you enjoy these two patterns ... I couldn't keep them to myself any longer ... too exciting to share things!

Enjoy .... Jane x

Jane's new Zentangle Patterns

A tangle for Shelley - you can make one for Shelley and send it to her for wellness wishes - see this blog post from Beez in the Belfry

And now ... I know some of you have been waiting patiently for my new patterns ... below you will find six of my new patterns ... I hope you like them.

An A5 sized zentangle using a variation of my new pattern ... see below.

Okay ... Jane's new pattern "Loave It"  (although I'm not sure about the name - I love the tangle).

Jane's new pattern "Fern" - make them any size, shape etc to fit.

Same with this pattern - "Amaze"  - any shape any combination of mazes.

Jane's new pattern "Scrolls"  ... these remind me of chelsea bun scrolls ... love the freeform of these.

Jane's new pattern "Connector"

And last but not least, Jane's new pattern "Click Clack" .... I really love this one, especially the variation number 2 - you get a whole new dimension to the pattern.

I hope you enjoy these zentangle patterns.  Leave a comment to let me know you have been, and send me a picture of your tangles using these patterns.

Some of My New Tangle Patterns

Hi - I thought I would share with you a few more of my tangles as I will be out of Tangle action for a week or so ... got to get moving with some quilting this week and next week.

This one is called "C-Snake"  I really love it.

This one is called "Floom" - I like how I can draw other flowers and stems behind the open part of the petals - lots of applications for this one.

And this one is called "Whing" - although it does look a bit like long grasses.

I'm sorry about the quality of my pics - still got to work out how to use my scanner.  If you click on the pictures you will go to another larger view of it which will help see it better.

Have fun while I am slaving away working doing some longarm machine quilting.

June - My Happy Birthday Month - Yay!

It's June - Winter is here in the antipodes (are we the antipodes if you are in the US and not in the UK - you know that opposite line - well we are the antipodes to someone out there - lol!)

But I digress,  June is Winter here in Tasmania and I love winter - all snuggly in front of the fire.

Here is another of my stacked A4 sized drawings - I am loving these.

And look what I found the other day - a beautiful white box to house my Tangle stuff.   A beautiful white canvas to tangle all over - now that is going to take some time but be a lot of tangling fun.

And because it is June here is another of my Tangle patterns ... I call this one Raindotty - it reminds me of ripples from rain drops.   I was looking through some of my old tangles (before I heard about zentangles) and I had a really long period of drawing with dots - raindotty evolved and I still use it today.  Enjoy.

Happy tangling for now ... Jane x

ps ... I am working on a little tangle as a giveaway to celebrate my B'day later this month ... I'll post about it when it is done.
